The series

Open and honest conversations with carers discussing the challenges, roadblocks, and joys of caring.

Break down the stigmas around care by hearing the stories of people who live this experience every day.

In Series 1, you’ll meet:

  • Julian and his fiancé Elise, caring for Julian’s brother
  • Sebastian, caring for his husband with early onset Alzheimer’s
  • Imogen,  carer for her twin sister and other siblings amidst grief
  • Peter & Keith: Friends, and carers of their wives living with dementia

In Series 2, you’ll meet

  • Najla, a Middle Eastern Muslim Australian caring for her husband with early onset dementia.
  • Kiara, a young mum caring for her autistic toddler with global developmental delay.
  • Sibel, a single parent and solo carer of her adult son
  • Elaine, a Malaysian Australian caring for two of her three children and running her own support business

Host Prudence Granger, Carer-in-Residence for the Carer Knowledge Exchange, ask questions like:

  • How does caring impact your mental health?
  • How do you deal with stigma around disability, illness and care in your cultural community?

Peter & Keith: Friends and carers of their wives living with dementia

In this episode of Care to Share, Prue finds a story of friendship. She chats with Peter and Keith, who have both been carers for their wives living with dementia and became friends through their caring journeys.

They speak to the importance of community for wellbeing as a carer, the connection and support for one another that kept them going through the many ups and downs of care, and what they learnt from each other. Keith and Peter have big hearts and many stories to share of their journey through life and in care.

Imogen: Carer for her twin sister and other siblings amidst grief

In this episode of Care to Share, Prue chats with Imogen about growing up with a twin sister who requires care. Imogen has always been a carer for Jacinta in some capacity throughout her life, as family circumstances and schools changed.

But after a family tragedy, at just 21 years old, she became the primary carer for Jacinta as well has her two younger siblings. Imogen candidly discusses this huge responsibility shift amidst overwhelming grief.

Sebastian: Carer for his husband with early onset Alzheimer’s

In this episode of Care to Share, Prue chats with Sebastian about his journey caring for his husband Jeff. Sebastian transitioned from partner to carer when Jeff was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s.

Seb honestly shares the trickiness of this relationship dynamic shift, while clearly expressing the long standing love and bond he has with his husband. He also highlights the nuanced challenge of care within a same sex relationship.

This episode is a candid look into an intimate and evolving relationship that is centred in love and care.

Julian & Elise

In this episode of Care to Share, Prue chats with Julian Maroun and his fiancé Elise Lewis about their journey caring for Julian’s brother Luke. Julian grew up caring for Luke, alongside his family. He discusses the challenges of being a young carer and how that has moulded who he is today. Elise now supports the Maroun family care for Luke, who has Down Syndrome and Cerebral Palsy. She unpacks the challenges of navigating a relationship and care, as well as how Luke has evolved through a more dynamic care structure that includes the support of the whole family.
